This is a 3D fly through of one of the experimental halls at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in Oxfordshire. It was produced using 3D scanning technology called point cloud capture, which beams out laser light to measure distances of surfaces from the scanner. By taking readings throughout the building, surveyors can quickly build up a data set or “point cloud” that efficiently maps internal structures such as this one. The data captured provides a three dimensional coordinate system, defined by X, Y and Z coordinates which represent hundreds of…

Important Architecture

Architecture is an expression of the true strength of a society because the things humans value most are those that are irrevocable, according to G. K. Chesterton. Unlike other forms of art, architecture lies in full view and is difficult to get rid of. Landmarks Of Great Britain

Our summer quest: to find the landmarks that truly define Britain in the 21st century. The appearance of the UK is changing at an unprecedented pace. So The Independent Traveller, along with BA s High Life magazine, asked readers to nominate the structures that most enrich the nation. With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of five common mistakes – and their solutions – for your next holiday with a camera. Try to think outside of the box when you re posing in front of a landmark. 1. Taking…

Mackintosh, Artist

Reason informed by emotion - expressed in beauty - elevated by earnestness - lightened by humour - that is the ideal that should guide all artists. Charles Rennie Mackintosh, architect, designer and artist, is an even more enigmatic figure today than when he was alive. While the astonishing modernity of his work has long ensured him a place of prominence among the pioneers of the Modern Movement, in recent years his promotion of symbolic decoration has been hailed as prophetically post-modern. Mackintosh believed architecture was the supreme discipline…

Architecture History Timeline

In accordance with the Residence Act passed by Congress in 1790, President George Washington in 1791 selected the area that is now the District of Columbia from land ceded by Maryland. He located the Capitol at the elevated east end of the Mall, on the brow of what was then called Jenkins…
